Barb graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College’s Animal Health Technology program in 1999. Her early career involved working in small animal medicine in Canada as well as herd health overseas.
After a period of time away from veterinary medicine, Barb re-entered clinical practice and joined Burnside Veterinary Hospital in the fall of 2020.
Barb’s love of mixing behavioral and physical wellness is demonstrated outside the walls of the clinic where she wears a secondary hat as a certified professional dog trainer. Her continuing education training has taken her to work directly with industry leaders in behavior worldwide where she continues to build her skills. She is an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional in both veterinary and avian capacities. Our patients (and staff) are quick to discover the never-ending stash of “pocket cookies” stowed away for our canine and feline patients. Nothing delights her more than working on cooperative and fear-free care with our patients.
Barb lives with her 3 dogs and 2 parrotlets. Her youngest dog, Trout, is in the early stages of training to be Barb’s next professional detection dog. If she is not out training her dogs or birds, Barb enjoys escaping to go hiking.
