As a kid with a medical disaster of a Cocker Spaniel who had a heart of gold, I knew I wanted to help all cherished family members lead a healthy and happy life. One thing that makes me a better veterinarian is being a pet (dog) owner myself. There is so much knowledge and emotional education not taught in a text book. When I was training to be a vet I had my best friend - greyhound Eleanor Rigby - by my side for every moment; she helped me learn to connect on a deeper level with pet parents. I hope in the exam room I am able to convey that empathetic understanding of just how much our pets mean to us, and how we can work together to make their lives better.
